GreenLight Energy

What is an ESCO?

An ESCO (Energy Service Company) is a gas supplier that purchases gas in a competitive market and then provides the gas to the Utility on their customer’s behalf.

How has deregulation changed the energy market today?

Before deregulation, New Yorkers had to buy their gas direct from their local Utility Company, which essentially functioned as a monopoly. Now the consumer has the ability to choose who will supply their commodity, and continue to receive the same great service from their Utility.

What changes can I expect in switching to GreenLight Energy?

On one consolidated bill, you will see the Utility’s charge for the delivery portion of the gas, and now you will see GreenLight Energy’s charge for the supply of the commodity. That will be the only noticeable change, other then the savings!.

How much can I expect to save off my Energy Bill?

ESCO customers can expect to save anywhere from 8-12% or more off their energy bill on a month-to-month basis.

What happens if I have an emergency?

Call your Utility company immediately. As a Greenlight Energy client, you will be able to reach a service representative during working hours with your commodity billing questions.

Will switching to Greenlight Energy disrupt or delay my commodity service?

Not at all. Greenlight Energy works with the Utilities on your behalf to provide for an easy, hassle free enrollment.

How do I go about switching to Greenlight Energy?

All that will be required to enroll is your Utility account number, provided on your energy bill, for verification purposes. You can enroll online or contact our toll-free number and one of our representatives will gladly help sign you up.

How do I make payments?

Through consolidated billing, you continue to pay the total requested amount from the Utility.

Are there any enrollment fees or any other additional costs involved in signing up with Greenlight Energy?

Signing up is free, with absolutely no hidden fees.

Do Utilities approve of customers switching to an ESCO?

Yes. Not only does National Grid and Con Edison approve of natural gas deregulation and the prevalence of ESCOs, they endorse us. Con Edison’s “Power Move” program provides a 7% discount on the supply portion of your gas for the first two months when you switch to an ESCO. National Grid’s “Market Match” program offers numerous resources to inform customers of the savings that various ESCOs can provide.

Will I receive the same quality natural gas?

All natural gas travels through the same pipeline system, so you will continue to receive the same natural gas as before.

What makes GreenLight Energy different from other ESCOs?

GreenLight Energy is a local company that specializes in the purchasing and supply of natural gas. Many other ESCOs operate out of state. We do not own and operate a home heating oil company. Many ESCOs do, which could add significantly to their overhead costs, thus adding to the price they charge you for gas.

Can I still contact my Utility with servicing and maintenance issues?

Yes. Everything remains the same in regards to the services your Utility is willing to provide.

Can I go back to my Utility if I am not happy?

Switching back is as easy as enrolling with us. Just let us know you would like to switch back and we will notify the Utility immediately.

Feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions.
